Dive Watch Reviews

If you are looking for the best dive watches, look no further.  Here you will see what Scuba Sumo believes to be the Top 5 Dive Watches currently on the market.
Dive watches have been around since the beginning of diving, but there have been some changes to style and functionality as the sport evolved.  Before dive computers were around, the only option a diver had was to use his watch to know how long he had been at depth and estimate amount of air remaining.  As dive computers have become more and more common, and more accessible to divers with tighter budgets, the watch has become more of an accessory or backup.  While still very useful and functional, dive watches can also be very fashionable out of the water.

Features to consider when choosing a dive watch

  • Water resistance rating:  Minimum recommendation is 100M
  • Depth gauge
  • Ease of readability
  • Durability in and out of the water
  • Aestetics – how it looks in and out of the water
  • Size of watch

Differences between dive watches and dive computers

While some dive computers are the size of large watches, dive computers have many more functions that dive watches.  A dive computer should track your dive depth and use compression tables to determine when you should return to the surface, stop times, and surface intervals.

Top Dive Watches

Omega Seamaster

If you want to be like James Bond, and lets face it – who doesn’t?, we have to start on the high end dive watches with the Omega Seamaster. No international spy is complete without the Omega Seamaster. It is stylish, durable, and backed by Omega.

The Omega Seamaster is the most expensive on this list (see lowest price), but with proper care is most likely to be passed on to your children. Omega has been around for many years and has been producing some of the finest watches on the market. The Seamaster is rated for water resistance down to 300m. It has a stylish 41 mm case with stainless steel band, unidirectional ceramic bezel and a blue dial.

The Citizen Promaster Diver is next on our list. With a much more reasonable price for this watch, it still has very stylish looks and great functionality.

One of the greatest things about Citizen watches is their Citizen Eco Drive, which is their patented solar technology. Eco Drive allows the watch to be powered by light, and lets it never needs a new battery. The Promaster Diver has a 43mm case, Japanese-quartz movement and is water resistant to 200m. This model has a polyurethane strap, which while less attractive than stainless steel, allows for better flexibility in the water. It gives the strap stretch that is needed to fit over a wet suit and allows for changes in compression of the wet suit at depth. See the lowest price for this Citizen Promaster Diver.

Luminox Navy Seal Dive Watch

Another great choice for dive watches is the Luminox 3001 Navy Seal Dive Watch (see lowest price). It has a 43mm case made from polyurethane, a black dial with date function. The band is a black rubber/silicone material that gives stretch to fit over a wetsuit and adjust for changes in compression. The watch has a swiss quartz movement.

The watch is rated for 200m / 660ft or 20 atm. The Luminox Navy Seal features the Luminox self-power illumination system which they claim allows the markers to glow 100 times brighter than other luminous watches. The manufacturer also claims it will provide continuous illumination for 25 years! This watch has great looks, is rated for 200m, and has great visibility in deep, dark waters. Scuba Sumo thinks this a great watch, at a very reasonable budget.

This Timex T2N958 Adventure Series Watch is next on our list. It is the most affordable watch on our list that is rated to 200m (see lowest price).

We chose this watch for its bold color and boldly styled dial. While we have the yellow strap listed, there are a few other options for colors. We like the bright yellow because it is hard to lose and stands out in a crowd.

The Timex Adventure Series dive watch is rated to 200m water resistance, and has built in depth and temperature gauges. This watch is ready to take diving. Remember to switch the depth gauge to ON before descending, otherwise it will not work properly. The built in thermometer is for use in the water, and may not accurately measure air temperature.

Budget Friendly Dive Watches

Casio  AMW330-7AV

Scuba Sumo prefers to recommend quality watches but a this option is for people with extremely tight budgets (see lowest price). While rated for 100m, it is unclear if it will stand the regular abuse of scuba diving. Scuba Sumo would not use this for anything other than a backup in the water. In this listing it even states that it is suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not scuba diving. Buyer beware if looking for a true dive watch.

The Casio AMW330 has a 45mm case with a white face and black resin band. This watch features a quartz movement with analog display, and is rated to 100m water resistance. It also has a bidirectional bezel, and three subdials.

Again, the Scuba Sumo prefers to recommend quality watches but a second option for people with extremely tight budgets is this Casio (see lowest price). While rated for 100m, it is unclear if it will stand the regular abuse of scuba diving. Scuba Sumo would not use this for anything other than a backup in the water.

The Casio MRW200H is rated for 100m, with an all resin case and bezel and polyeurethane strap. It is analog and has 12/24 hour time keeping with a day and date display. The case is 43mm wide, with an 18mm wide band.
